Using certbot

acme.sh

A lot of installations use acme.sh now. The simplest way to figure out things on these installations is to run

acme.sh --list

or

acme.sh --help

works.

ISPConfig uses this as the default. If certbot is not installed on installation or upgrade, acme.sh is automagically downloaded and installed.

LetsEncrypt and ISPConfig

As of ISPConfig v3.3, there is built in support for LetsEncrypt using the acme.sh script. ISPConfig now does all of the work for you, even setting up certificates for your control panel on installation.

The following is old information for ancient versions of ISPConfig, before they did this.

LetsEncrypt - recovering from bad install

The script for installing LetsEncrypt can break, especially if you do not watch for errors on your own system. For example, one of our techs did not notice the package installation failed on one of the installs, which resulted in an unusable system.

LetsEncrypt

letsencrypt.org <https://letsencrypt.org> is a very nice service that offers free SSL certificates which are fully recognized by most (if not all) web browsers (https), mail servers (smtps) and client (pops & imaps), and can be used to even set up encryption for things like ejabberd (
