Full disk encryption (devuan)

This is a quick summary of how to set up encryption during the installation of a Debian based system. It is actually not full disk, but full partition. It assumes you want a separate /, /home and swap, all encrypted. It uses LUKS and dm-crypt. For a detailed explanation, see

Change/Add LUKS Passphrase

LUKS is used for Full Disk Encryption, among other things. Sometimes, after you have set this up, you find you need a second passphrase, or you need to replace an existing passphrase. One recent example for me was when I retasked a laptop with an encrypted file system for another employee. They really needed most of the stuff on there, and it was a recent install, so I did not want to rebuild from scratch. However, I did not want to give her my passphrase either.

Remove SSL Key Passphrase (.p12)

By default, ssl certificates are created using a password. For example, OpenVPN keys (.p12 files) always have a passphrase in them.

However, when automating connections, such as ensuring an OpenVPN connection is created on boot, requires the private key passphrase to be removed.
