Cyberpower OR500 under NUT

Cyberpower OR500 under NUT Under nut 2.2.2, the CyberPower OR500 rackmount UPS does not work. Following are the instructions to get UPS working. Note: This document works under Debian Lenny. You may need to modify these steps for other distro's (ie, where udev puts its stuff).

Change udev

udev does not have a rule (supplied by the NUT package) to recognize the CyberPower OR500. A quick look at lsusb shows the vendor id is 0764 and the product id is 0601. So, add the following line to /etc/udev/rules.d/52_nut-usbups.rules

SYSFS{idVendor}=="0764", SYSFS{idProduct}=="0601", MODE="664", GROUP="nut"

Unplug the usb monitoring cable for the UPS, wait a bit (30seconds? watch syslog), then plug it back in. It should now have the correct permissions to allow nut to write to it.

ups.conf configuration

Since this version of nut does not recognize a UPS with a product id of 0601, we need to make a minor modification to the /etc/nut/ups.conf file. Following is mine. The only addition is the productid=0601.

[cyberpower_rack]
  driver=usbhid-ups
  productid = 0601
  port = auto
