Windows 10 Update Issues

Hardware fails after Update

Occasionally, a Windows 10 update will cause one or more hardware items to fail or be erratic. When this occurs, the following procedure may fix it. Basically, you are reinstalling the driver for the failed device. Following procedure assumes the wireless interface has failed.

  1. right click on the start button
  2. Select Device Manager
  3. Open Network Adapters
  4. Right click on the adapter
  5. Click “Update Driver”
  6. Restart Computer
  7. Test

If that does not work, do the following. NOTE: This can end up disabling network access. If that happens, you will need to use a network cable to get the machine back up and running

  1. right click on the start button
  2. Select Device Manager
  3. Open Network Adapters
  4. Right click on the adapter
  5. Click “Uninstall Device”
  6. Restart Computer
  7. Open Device Manager again (as above)
  8. Open Network Adapters
  9. Right click on the network adapter
  10. Select “Update Driver Software”

The final steps above (Update Driver Software) may not be necessary. Windows 10 will (hopefully) find the device, install the stock driver, and the interface will come up.
